The Boilermakers, led by head coach and former Purdue player Matt Painter, are having one of their best seasons ever. They are ranked No. 1 in the nation and are 19-1 overall – their best start in school history (8-1 in the Big Ten) – as they head to Michigan Thursday to battle the Wolverines.

The Hoosiers, guided by head coach and former IU player Mike Woodson, are hot, too, winning three straight games to improve to 13-6 (4-4).

The game will feature a pair of All-Americans in National Player of the Year frontrunner junior Zach Edey, the 7-foot-4 behemoth for Purdue, and IU 6-9 senior Trayce Jackson-Davis, who was the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten’s Player of the Year honor.

Edey is pouring in 21.5 points, grabbing 13.2 rebounds, dishing out 1.3 assists and rejecting 2.3 shots per contest this season.

Jackson-Davis is averaging 19.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.1 blocks per game this season.

Purdue leads its all-time series against Indiana 125-90, dominating recently winning 10 of the last 11 meetings and 13 of the last 15.

Last season the teams split the series with IU beating Purdue 68-65 in Assembly Hall and the Boilermakers downing the Hoosiers 69-67 in Mackey Arena.

The two programs are tradition rich.

IU has five NCAA Championships (the last coming in 1987) and one NIT title to go along with 22 Big Ten championships.

Purdue has never won an NCAA Championship, but was awarded 1932 Helms Foundation and Premo-Porretta Power Poll national titles. Plus, the Boilermakers have one NIT crown and a league-leading 24 conference titles. In addition, Purdue has one Big Ten Tournament championship and IU has none.

IU has appeared in 40 NCAA Tournaments compared to Purdue’s 33.

The Hoosiers’, who have a 68-35 record in the Big Dance, last Final Four appearance was in 2002, while the Boilermakers was in 1980.

Recently though the Boilermakers, who have a 44-33 record in the Big Dance, have made more than twice as many appearances in the NCAA Tournament than their rivals.

Over the last 16 years, Purdue has played in 14 NCAA Tournaments and posted an 18-14 record with one Elite Eight appearance and six trips to the Sweet 16, including last season.

IU, on the other hand, has played in just six NCAA Tournaments over the past 15 seasons. The Hoosiers have gone 6-6 and have three Sweet 16 appearances (the last coming in 2016).

The Boilermakers also have had 46 All-Americans and IU 42, and Purdue has had 26 consensus first-team All-Americans compared to IU’s 15.

Thanks to The Rees’ partnerships with MAX 98.3 FM and the Plymouth Parks Department for making the Watch Party a reality, and special thank you to the events sponsors: Gibson Insurance, the Plymouth Foundry, and The Purdue Alumni Association of Marshall County!
