Watson named POW for MCCAA West

DONALDSON — With just five weeks of the season completed, Marian University Ancilla women’s basketball player De’Mour Watson has earned Player of the Week honors for the Western Conference of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association for the second time.

The 5-10 wing began her week last Tuesday at Carl Sandburg, and despite a tough outing for the Chargers, Watson still managed to post a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Thursday, back on her home court against Madonna’s JV, she put together a big outing, scoring 29 points, pulling down 17 rebounds (6 of them offensive), handing out 5 assists, and collecting 2 steals. Saturday, Watson capped off her strong week with a 34-point effort at Andrews on Saturday night, with 27 of those points coming in the first half. She added 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocked shots in the victory.

For the week, Watson averaged 24.3 points, 14.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game, while making 50% of her overall field goals (30-60) and 72% of her free throws (13-18).

“De’Mour just loves to be in the gym,” said Ancilla coach Ryan Gould. “She always plays hard, asks questions, and wants to improve. She also continues to step into more of a leadership role, despite being in her first year at Marian Ancilla.”
