Glenn freshman pulls off hat trick at Sectional

What a week it has been for Glenn freshman track standout Lydia Goodsell.

For that matter, what a year it has been for the soaring Falcon.

She did the unthinkable by winning a Sectional championship in not one, not two, but three events.

At the South Bend St. Joseph High School Sectional, Goodsell won the 100 meter dash in 12.59, the 200 meter dash in 25.69 and the long jump (18-1.75 feet).

She pulled off the same hat trick a week earlier in her first Northern Indiana Conference Championship Meet.

This is just the beginning for Goodsell, who earned South Bend Tribune’s Athlete of the Week honors for May 6-12 and also plays soccer for the Falcons.

Her time of 12.35 in the 100 on April 30 versus South Bend Washington ranked as one of the top 35 times according to the 2024 IHSAA All-Indiana Official Rankings this year. In addition, her time of 25:57 in the 200 ranked No. 38.

She will now set her sights on the Kokomo Regional May 21 and possibly the State Finals May 31 at Indiana University in Bloomington.

No doubt Goodsell is well on her way to smashing record after record in Walkerton. Considering the way she’s started her high school career, she very well could leave Glenn Country as the most decorated track athlete in school history.

Keep soaring Lydia, we will certainly be watching!
