2021 WKVI All-Kankakee Valley Area Boys Basketball Teams

1st Team

Brendan Carr-6’8 Senior-South Central: Brendan averaged 15.9 points per game this season while recording 10.9 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.4 assists per game as well. Throughout the season, Carr shot 56% from the field while hitting on 67% of his free throw attempts. He wrapped up his career ranked eleventh on the school’s all-time scoring list and was also named to the LaPorte Herald Dispatch All-Area Team as well as the All-Porter County Conference Team.

Russell Compton-6’1 Junior-Winamac: Russell was the team scoring leader, averaging 12.2 points per game while also pulling down 5.6 rebounds per game. He also averaged 1.7 blocks, 1.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game for the Warriors, while shooting 72% at the free throw line and 31% from the three-point line. He also was named to the Hoosier North Athletic Conference First Team as a Junior.

Brycen Hannah-6’4 Sophomore-John Glenn: Brycen was the Falcons leader this season in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 16 points per game to go along with 6.5 rebounds, as the Falcons tallied an impressive 20-5 record this season, the best record for the the John Glenn Boys in twenty-five years. The big Sophomore also shot 56% from the field while hitting on 76% of his free throw attempts. Hannah was also named First Team All-Northern Indiana Conference.

Cade Short-6’1 Senior-Knox: Cade was counted on to do a lot for the Redskins this season. The Senior averaged 17 points per game as well as 6.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists. Serving as the team captain, Short was named the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player, All-Hoosier North Athletic Conference, as well as being named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State First Team.

Carter Yung-6’1 Senior-John Glenn: Carter had an incredibly well-rounded season in his final year for the Falcons. The Senior averaged 15.5 points per game while also pulling down 4.5 rebounds, and dishing out 2.5 assists per game. He was consistent in his shooting from all over the court as he hit 54% from the field, 72% at the free throw line, and 39% from behind the three-point line. In addition, Yung was also named All-Northern Indiana Conference Honorable Mention at the end of the season.

2nd Team

Owen Clingler-6’0 Senior-Culver Community: Owen was a solid performer for the Cavaliers throughout the season, averaging 10.8 points per game, to go along with 3.4 steals, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game in his final year at Culver. He also received All-Hoosier North Athletic Conference Honorable Mention at season’s end.

Ben Garwood-6’4 Junior-LaCrosse: Ben played a big part on both ends of the floor for the Tigers, averaging 16.7 points per game as well as 7.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks. The Junior was able to connect on 77% of his free throw attempts during the season, while logging six double-doubles, and being named to the All-Porter County Conference Team.

Garrett Leman-6’1 Senior-West Central: Garret was a huge bright spot for the Trojans, as he led the team in scoring with 12.5 points per game. He also provided a big spark in rebounding, averaging 5.4 rebounds per game from his guard position.

Dylan Murphy-6’1 Senior-Oregon-Davis: Dylan was a consistent force for the Bobcats this season, leading the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game, while also averaging an impressive 6.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds. He shot 45% from the field, including 39% from the three-point line, and 60% at the free throw line. Dylan started all four years for the Bobcats, while playing under three different head coaches.

Blayne Wilcox-6’1 Junior-North Judson: Blayne provided a major bright spot for the Bluejays from start to finish in his Junior season. He displayed well rounded numbers as he averaged 11 points per game, while also logging 5.0 rebounds. He was also named to the All-Hoosier North Athletic Conference Team.
