Triton head football coach resigns

With the 2024 high school football regular season coming to a close, Triton head coach Zach Whittaker has resigned.

Triton School Corporation said in a press release, “Recently, school administrators received information concerning a staff member’s possible relationship during a previous school year with a now former student. This information legally necessitated a report be made to certain state agencies. Those required reports occurred immediately.

“As a precaution, the staff member was placed on administrative leave at that same time, while the school corporation and the state agencies evaluated the circumstances. Late Monday, October 14, 2024, without consulting any school administrator, the staff member submitted, via email, his immediate resignation. The former staff member is Zach Whittaker, teacher and head football coach.”

The South Bend Tribune reported the Indiana State Police is still investigating the case.

The school corporation also stated, “Any form of harmful conduct toward our students will not be tolerated.

“Our parents, staff and students can be certain Triton School Corporation will take all steps necessary to safeguard the well-being of those under our supervision.”

Triton stated it will not comment further on this matter at this time.

Whittaker was 14-6 in two seasons leading the Trojans.

Replacing Whittaker for the regular-season finale at home against North Miami and the postseason will be Triton’s athletic director and former football coach Rodney Younis.
