CULVER — Michael McColgan ’25, Charlotte Baxter ’27, and William Tullis ’25 have been awarded October 2024’s Student-Athletes of the Month.
MICHAEL MCCOLGAN
In October:
-960 passing yards
-10 touchdown passes
-90 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown
-Tied a school record he set earlier in the year by passing for 5 touchdowns in a single game
-64% pass completion (72/112)
McColgan QB
“Michael is the most decorated quarterback in the history of CMA Eagle football,” coach Andy Dorrel said.
Dorrel said McColgan’s decision-making at quarterback has been superb.
McColgan is a team captain and helped lead the Eagles to an 8-2 record.
Dorrel said he helped establish 19 CMA school records with the help of his “talented teammates surrounding him.”
McColgan holds nearly every CMA passing record and is the all-time leading passer in CMA history in a single season (2,348) and career (5,738).
He also holds the record for most touchdown passes in a single season with 28 and 49 for his career.
“Possibly Michael’s strongest asset as a quarterback is his calm demeanor and ability to execute during the most intense moments of a game,” Dorrel said. “Michael is a multi-sport athlete who uses his athleticism to add value in countless ways.”
CHARLOTTE BAXTER
-Regional qualifier
-CGA Cross Country #1 Runner Award
Baxter CC
Coach David Lawrence said Baxter was injured for a good portion of the season and missed three meets.
She continued with rehabilitation exercises and cardiovascular training even though she couldn’t run.
Baxter returned from training with a PR at the Portage Invitational with a time of 21:05, a PR at the Manchester Sectional with a 20:54, and another PR at the New Haven Regional with a 20:31.
“Successive PR’s are tough to do after an injury and with already being a top runner,” Lawrence said.
Though Baxter could not participate in three meets, Lawrence said Baxter demonstrated determination in her rehab.
“Once back to competing, she would help pace the top runners along during a race to help them do their best and then continue to push herself to get a personal record,” he said. “She demonstrates that being part of a team is about putting the team above yourself and seeking to do your best at every practice.”
WILLIAM TULLIS
-#1 singles player
-Team captain
-Four-year letter winner
-Lieutenant and Infantry Battalion Supply NCO
Tullis TN
Coach Alan Loehr said Tullis is a great example of how the current game of tennis is played in terms of court coverage, point management, and stroke production.
Tullis helped lead the tennis team to its third straight Semi-state and a final ranking in Indiana’s Top 15.
During his career, he has been a critical piece of the tennis program that has played in two State Finals, won 73 matches, and lost only 12 in the last four seasons, as tennis is a sport in Indiana that does not have classifications.
Tullis finished his senior season 18-7 with wins over the #1 singles player from Indiana’s #7 and #16 ranked teams and Michigan’s 2nd ranked team in their top division. His losses came from #1 players from the #1, #3, and #12 teams in Indiana and to the #1 player from the #1 ranked Division 3 team in Michigan.
His record for the last two years at the #2 and #1 singles position was 35-9.
Tullis was also recently selected to the 2024 Indiana All-State 1st team singles.
“His outstanding play and court demeanor put Culver in the very best light and secured for our school an excellent reputation among players, coaches, school administrators, parents, and fans,” Loehr said.
