College Football Playoff bracket to be unveiled Sunday
The countdown is on.
This Sunday we will know exactly what the final 12-team College Football Playoff bracket will look like.
The official announcement of the bracket will be made at 12 p.m. on ESPN during Sunday’s Selection Show.
On Tuesday night last “unofficial” bracket was unveiled.
Keep in mind, CFP chair Warde Manuel confirmed the order is set between teams that are no longer playing.
“Teams that are not playing cannot be adjusted where they are compared to other teams that are not playing,” he said.
So based on Manuel’s comments, Indiana and Notre Dame are locked into their slots.
That would mean a first-round matchup of 11th-seeded Alabama and sixth-seeded Notre Dame in South Bend.
The Irish are 11-1 with the only blemish on their schedule coming in September against Northern Illinois.
The bracket also has Curt Cignetti’s 11-1 Indiana Hoosiers traveling to Athens to face Georgia in a 10-7 matchup.
IU is one of four Big Ten teams projected to be in the bracket. Oregon, Ohio State and Penn State are the others.
The four highest-ranked conference champions will receive a first round bye, while the fifth-highest-ranked conference champion will be seeded between five and 12. Since Notre Dame is not in a conference, it cannot get a first-round bye and the highest seed it can get is fifth.
The first-round games will be played Dec. 20 and 21 at on-campus sites.
The quarterfinals will be Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Those will be played at the Fiesta, Peach, Rose and Sugar bowls.
The semifinals will be Jan. 9-10 and be at the Orange and Cotton bowls.
The CFP National Championship will be Jan. 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
