Lansing late surge stuns Chargers

NAPPANEE — The Marian University Ancilla Baseball team hosted Lansing Community College yesterday at NorthWood High School in Nappanee due to weather and poor field conditions at home.
Lansing, historically one of the best programs in the MCCAA, took advantage of eight Charger errors to escape a 2-2 tie through 4 innings and add six runs in the top of the 5th and seven more in the top of the 6th to win, 15-2.
The Stars led 2-0 through 3 1/2 innings. Then, in the bottom of the 4th, freshman Aayden Antoine led off with a walk, and freshman Aiden Marcus followed with a double. Sophomore Blaze Schultz singled on a ground ball to 3rd base, scoring Antoine, making it 2-1. Next, with runners on the corners, they executed a double steal, with Marcus taking home and tying the game at 2-2.
However, the 13 runs the Stars assembled in the following two innings doomed the Chargers. Redshirt freshman Aiden Diaz (0-3) was credited with the loss, but he managed 4 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs, and striking out five batters.
The baseball team has a big “extended” weekend ahead of them. Thursday, they travel to Lake Michigan College for a doubleheader, then Saturday ,they host the Red Hawks in a doubleheader at home. Sunday, they have a game scheduled against Prairie State College at the SouthShore Railcats Stadium in Gary, Indiana.
