CULVER — Jessica Kang played an essential role this season for the Culver Girls Academy (CGA) rowing team.
Kang was a member of the winning boat in the Girls Lightweight Senior 4+ event at the 2025 Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) National Championship.
“This was the first time Culver Rowing – Girls had ever entered the lightweight category and the first time a Culver boat has medaled or won at SRAAs,” coach Kerry Hassall said.
After recording the fastest time in the preliminary heats, Kang’s crew was seeded first among the six teams in the final.
“This was an achievement that brought added pressure and served as a powerful test of their grit,” Hassall said.
The team secured the victory with a time of 5:51.86, edging out The George School, which finished second at 5:54.45.
Kang was not only a key contributor to this year’s championship crew, but also part of the boat that narrowly missed qualifying for the SRAA finals in 2024, falling short by just 0.7 seconds.
“Jessica helped anchor the crew’s mental resilience during this moment, maintaining focus, discipline, and composure,” Hassall said. “She leads by doing, setting the tone with quiet confidence and a consistent work ethic. Her presence kept the boat steady under intense pressure, and her leadership was instrumental in guiding the team to Culver Rowing – Girls’ first-ever national title.”
