Lady Chargers open unbeaten
DONALDSON — The Marian University Ancilla Women’s Basketball team took the court twice last week, knocking off South Suburban in South Holland, Illinois, on Wednesday night, before returning home to escape Richard J. Daley at the LifePlex on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers began the 2024-2025 season 7-0
South Suburban (W 67-32): The Chargers jumped out to a 34-10 halftime lead and led 47-15 after three periods behind a stingy defense, transition offense, and ball security. Sophomore guard Annika Davis and Freshman forward Emma Nelson tied for scoring honors with 14 points apiece, while Sophomore guard Aaliyah Keil pulled down 9 rebounds, and Freshman guard Tianna Guy handed out 5 assists on the evening.
Richard J. Daley (W 65-52): Saturday afternoon, Marian Ancilla struggled through turnovers and cold shooting during a frustrating first half, but they still found themselves ahead 34-32 at the intermission. In the third quarter, the Chargers outscored Daley, 20-8, extending a lead they would maintain throughout the remainder of the day. Sophomore forward Santana Eubanks was all over the place, scoring 30 points, pulling down 14 rebounds, dishing out 7 assists, and collecting 5 steals, while not turning the ball over one time. Sophomore guard Ciara Bonner was also solid, contributing 8 points and 8 rebounds in the effort.
The women are back in action this Friday, when they host a very good Kankakee Community College team at the LifePlex in Plymouth. Tipoff for their matchup with the Cavaliers is set for 5:30 p.m.
