Triton girls win thriller
PLYMOUTH — In a game you heard on MAX 98.3, Triton’s Lady Trojans took a thriller at Plymouth Thursday night by a 35-33 final.
Triton got a quick jump on Plymouth with their inside presence, jumping to a 10-2 first-quarter lead. Triton took advantage of eight first-half Plymouth turnovers, with Avery Viers scoring eight of her game-high 15 in the first half. Viers would leave the game in the fourth quarter with an injury.
Plymouth picked up its defensive intensity but still struggled to find momentum until the fourth quarter.
With Viers out and Sierra Hawley on the bench in foul trouble, Plymouth found a spark, making a run with a 14-point fourth quarter, nearly doubling their point total in the first three frames.
Brooklyn Scruggs’ defense was the spark that the Lady Pilgrims needed, adding five crucial points in the final three minutes, helping the Lady Pilgrims take their first lead of the game with :37 left.
The Lady Trojans would rally to grab it back with just :17. Mylie Groves had all six of her points in the game’s crucial fourth quarter.
The Pilgrims were led by Lydia Wray with 14 points and 5 rebounds, Brooklyn Scruggs with 5 points and 4 steals, Chloe Horton with 7 rebounds and 6 steals, and Ella Davis with 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
For Triton, Savannah Hawley had six rebounds to go with three points.
Triton is in action Saturday at Wawasee. Plymouth will be on the road Tuesday night at Logansport.
