CULVER — Gloria Wang is a member of the Culver Girls Academy (CGA) fencing team.
Wang has had an outstanding fall season, steadily climbing the national rankings. She is currently ranked 42nd in the nation in Junior (under 20) Women’s Sabre.
On Oct. 6, Wang competed at the North American Cup, finishing 16th out of 237 fencers in Junior Women’s Sabre, earning national points.
She followed that performance with impressive results at the Remenyik Regional Open Competition on Oct. 18 and 19, earning 1st place in Junior Women’s Sabre and 3rd in Division 1A Women’s Sabre.
Wang has also committed to the University of Notre Dame, a powerhouse Division I program that has won the NCAA championship six of the last eight seasons.
Coach TJ McNally praised Wang’s development as a fencer and the success she has had thus far.
“Gloria has been on a precipitous rise through the ranks of first cadet, then junior, and now Division 1 fencing. Over the last couple of years, she has gone from podium finishes in Midwest regional competition to medalling at North American Cups to winning the USFA Division 2 national championship,” he said. “She’s started the fall off with major wins over collegiate fencers at Northwestern’s Remenyik Open and a commitment to the University of Notre Dame.”
