Plymouth girls fall to St. Joe
SOUTH BEND — The Lady Pilgrims traveled to South Bend St. Joseph Tuesday evening for a non-conference matchup on the Huskies’ senior night, taking a 75-53 loss.
Plymouth put together a balanced team effort on the glass and offensively in a fast-paced game that featured a lot of play in transition. Plymouth held a slim 14–12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After St. Joseph reinserted its original starting lineup in the second quarter, the Huskies found their rhythm, outscoring the Lady Pilgrims 24–9 to take a 36–23 advantage into halftime.
Plymouth showed fight in the fourth quarter but was unable to string together enough defensive stops to close the gap.
Defensively, Brooklyn Scruggs was tasked with guarding St. Joseph’s leading scorer, Division I recruit Ari Rowell, and made every look difficult, holding her 11 points below her season average. Lydia Wray continued to lead the Pilgrim offense, finishing with a double-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Hayden Shipley contributed 5 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds, while Scruggs added 10 points and 3 rebounds. Chloe Horton chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds. Peyton Ellinger and Ella Davis combined for 11 points and 8 rebounds. The Lady Pilgrims (8-11) return to conference play Saturday night as they travel to Wawasee for a 7:45 p.m. tip.
