Plymouth girls get back in NLC win column

SYRACUSE — The Lady Pilgrims traveled to Wawasee Saturday evening for an NLC matchup on the Warriors’ senior night and came home with a 43-34 win.
Plymouth came out strong, jumping to a quick 10–3 lead in the first quarter after scoring on three of its first four possessions.
Wawasee adjusted defensively in the second quarter, increasing pressure and trapping aggressively, which allowed the Warriors to climb back into the game off Pilgrim turnovers. Plymouth held an 18–14 advantage heading into halftime.
Plymouth stayed committed to its defensive game plan for all four quarters, successfully limiting Wawasee’s top scorer to just two points on the night. Brooklyn Scruggs was instrumental in that effort, doing an excellent job denying touches and setting the tone defensively.
Offensively, Chloe Horton led the Lady Pilgrims with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Lydia Wray added another strong all-around performance with 11 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds. Scruggs chipped in 7 points and 5 rebounds, while Peyton Ellinger contributed 6 points and 3 rebounds.
The Lady Pilgrims played unselfish basketball throughout the contest, with 11 of their 14 made field goals coming off assists. Plymouth came out on top on the road in conference play, earning a 43–34 victory.
The JV took a 41-34 loss. Naomi Peacock had 12 points and five rebounds, Hanley Feldman added eight with six rebounds, and Page Frank had 8 points with four rebounds.
The Plymouth varsity is now 9-11, 3-3 in NLC action 12-7, 3-3.
The Lady Pilgrims will return home Tuesday night to host Culver Girls Academy in their final home game of the season with a 7:30 p.m. start.
