Hanyzewski headed to IUSB

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth multi-sport athlete Lila Hanyzewski has decided to continue her academic and athletic career at Indiana University South Bend, where she will play soccer for the Titans.
Lila is the daughter of Michael and Shay. During her time at Plymouth, she competed in soccer, gymnastics, and track for the Lady Pilgrims. Beyond athletics, she was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Sunshine Society, Key Club, and Orchestra.
Lila plans to major in radiography, and IU South Bend stood out to her because it offers a program that aligns with her career goals while allowing her to continue playing soccer. She appreciates the smaller campus environment and the opportunity to grow both academically and athletically as she prepares for her future.
“We would like to congratulate Lila on a spectacular academic and athletic career at Plymouth High School,” said Plymouth soccer coach Adam Calhoun. “Lila constantly works hard in the classroom and on the athletic field and is a great leader for her entire team. She is an outstanding soccer player, and we are very excited that she has the opportunity to showcase her abilities at the collegiate level. We wish you all the best in the next chapter of your academic and athletic career. You absolutely deserve this amazing opportunity.”
“I would like to congratulate Lila on behalf of the track program for her outstanding achievements both inside and outside the classroom,” said Plymouth girls track coach Rick Stiles. “It was an honor to share a Galaxies classroom with you during your sixth-grade academic career, but also watch you transform into a PHS warrior who was fierce on the soccer field and a true competitor on the track. IUSB is getting a true all-around student athlete who already knows how to balance academics and athletic seasons with flair, but is also getting a leader who instantly makes the Titans a matchup nightmare with you joining their program. We look forward to hearing the soccer recaps of your future matches, but we also can’t wait to watch you in person.”
“We want to send our congratulations to Lila and the whole Hanyzewski family for this great accomplishment,” said Plymouth gymnastics coach Amanda Bender. “IUSB is getting a wonderful student athlete, leader, and competitor. Lila brings an energy and a drive that uplifts any program she is involved in, and we are sure that will continue on as a Titan. We wish you the best of luck as you continue on in your athletic and academic careers, and we could not be more proud of you.”
IU South Bend is an NAIA institution competing in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference, alongside area schools such as Holy Cross, St. Ambrose, St. Xavier, St. Francis, Olivet Nazarene, and Calumet.
