Plymouth JV tennis tourney
PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth JV Girls Tennis hosted their annual 8-Team Home Tournament on Saturday, finishing in fifth place on the day. Plymouth hosted teams from FW Blackhawk Christian, Bremen, Chesterton, Delta, Goshen, Kokomo, and Portage. It was a field that hosted many strong tennis programs and large enrollment schools.
All three Plymouth singles players finished the day with a 1-2 record. 1S Caylee Troyer and 2S Payton Faulstich finished in sixth place, while 3S player Mia Danforth finished in fourth place. Caylee earned a backdraw win over Kokomo, Payton earned a backdraw win over Portage, and Mia earned an opening round win over Portage. Payton drew the eventual champion from Delta in the first round, while Maia lost to the eventual champion from Delta in the semi-finals, but won more games against her than anyone did for the day.
The Plymouth 1D Team of Katelyn Golba and Lilly Jackson finished with a 2-1 record for the day. Katelyn and Lilly regrouped from a close loss to Goshen in the semi-finals to beat Bremen in a close match to finish the day in third place. Katelyn and Lilly won two super tiebreakers and a set tiebreaker, which helped contribute to their two wins.
The Pilgrims rotated three players (Madi Clemons, Anna Ogle, Naomi Peacock) into the 2D position throughout the day, to go 1-2 overall for the day. The doubles team of Madi Clemons and Naomi Peacock won their backdraw match over Bremen in a super tiebreaker.
All available Plymouth JV players got match experience Saturday, with Olivia Collins, Kenzie Ross, Anissa Singleton, and Sydney Manuwal all getting a singles match either by filling in for another team or as an exhibition match. Olivia and Kenzie also got a doubles exhibition match.
Coach’s Quote: “Congrats to our JV girls on their tournament today. As a team we placed fifth and I couldn’t be more proud of the hustle our young women showed today. Maia really stood out in her performance, this was her first time doing singles and she played terrific. We might not have won, but we gave a full effort from start to finish and that’s something to be proud of. I can’t wait to get back out there to learn from our experiences and clean up some of our miscues.” – Coach Plothow
Next Match: Plymouth JV will host Chesterton on Monday 4/27/26 for a rescheduled match, 5:45 start.
