Plymouth boys swept by Leo, Carroll
PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Boys Tennis Team hosted two strong Fort Wayne area tennis programs at the Mary Beth Hunter Tennis Complex in Plymouth Saturday, with traditionally district-ranked Leo beating the Pilgrims 5-0 in the opening match and traditionally state-ranked FW Carroll taking down the Pilgrims by the same score in the second match.
Plymouth lost all the matches in straight sets against Leo, but played a few competitive sets. With normal 2D player Cole Cain missing Saturday’s matches, Senior Brogan Mahoney filled in the lineup at 2D with Carter Breeding against Leo, and the duo played Plymouth’s most competitive set of the day, falling 6-4 in the second set.
Plymouth 1S player Liam Hanyzewski won some games in a 6-2, 6-2 loss, while the 1D team of Logan Nelson and Benson Prater won a couple of games in their second set. 2S Caleb Edmiston and 3S Adan Macias both lost their matches in straight sets as well.
Against FW Carroll, all Plymouth players lost in straight sets. Brogan Mahoney played 3S, where he won two of the three games Plymouth won for the entire team match. The Plymouth 1D team of Logan Nelson and Benson Prater won a game in their second set as well, while 1S player Liam Hanyzewski, 2S player Caleb Edmiston, and the 2D team of Carter Breeding and Adan Macias all lost by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
The Pilgrims saw some great tennis and opponents on Saturday, continued to gain valuable match experience, and look forward to showing more improvement in the second week of the 2026 match season.
“Leo and FW Carroll are both strong programs, with more playing experience than us and more skilled players as well,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “Seeing this level today can certainly make us a better team in the long-term, just seeing a different level of play and pace on spin on their shots and learning how to construct points and win points at a higher level.”
“Leo could be a district-ranked team this season, while FW Carroll is likely a top-10 team in the entire state this year. We won’t make excuses, and we will continue to work hard and get better with each day and experience on the courts.”
