Hanyzewski moves to regional

CROWN POINT — Plymouth’s number one singles player Liam Hanyzewski beat Joshua Johnson (Hammond Central) 6-1, 6-1, to move on to the individual state tennis tournament.
Despite some early nerves and tentative moments, Liam won in straight sets to extend his season and continue on in the Individual Singles Tournament.
Overall, Liam jumped out to big leads in both sets. He did a great job of hitting his returns deep into the court to either win points or set himself up well for success in the point. He also served well throughout the match and earned quite a few easy points that way.
By virtue of Culver Academy’s team win over Lowell in the Team Regional final
and Culver’s 1S win over Lowell’s 1S, Liam claimed the Individual Singles Sectional Championship at Crown Point and will move on to the Individual Regional at North Central High School in Indianapolis on Saturday, October 17, 10 AM. His opponent is to be determined.
“Liam has had a few good days of practice to get ready for today’s
match, and showed improvements in multiple areas today. In particular, he returned
serve very well today. Liam has played some of his best tennis the last two weeks, and I’m excited to see him continue to improve his skills and gain confidence.
I’m excited for him to experience the Individual Regional setting at North Central next Saturday and get some additional reps in practice to prepare to play some great players down there.”
