MEET DOUG GRIFFITHS

Few, if any, are as knowledgeable about the history of Purdue sports let alone are as passionate about Boilermaker athletics than Doug.

A Purdue graduate, Doug has been a Boilermaker fan since the 1970s and was the editor of Purdue’s Gold & Black Illustrated for 20 years (December 1991-July 2011), primarily covering football and men’s basketball.

He has covered more than 10 Purdue bowl games, including the 2001 Rose Bowl, and upwards of 20 NCAA Tournaments nationwide dating back to his days at the student newspaper – The Exponent.

Doug has covered Purdue basketball in Hawaii, Alaska, the Virgin Islands, and in several states including New Mexico, Texas and Maryland. His travels covering Boilermaker football have included Hawaii, California, Arizona, Texas, Florida and North Carolina among others.

Doug authored a book – Tales From Boilermaker Country in 2003 – and he was the editor for Purdue Pride, the official game program of Boilermaker Football and Basketball for eight years (1995-2002).

His knowledge about the Big Ten is just as impressive, having covered the nation’s premier conference since 1986.

Doug was a contributor to Indiana University’s Inside Indiana, and a regular contributor to the University of Nebraska’s Huskers Illustrated, writing opponent previews, Big Ten notebooks and features for their weekly magazine and premium website.

He has also had stints at IndySpotsLegends.com, covering Notre Dame, Purdue and all things Big Ten, and covered high school sports for a number of years with the Plymouth Pilot News.

Doug has been part of the sports broadcasting team for MAX 98.3 FM in Plymouth for the last seven years where he has covered high school football and boys and girls basketball. He is also a sales executive for the radio station.

Over the years, he has appeared on several radio shows, including the Purdue Sports Radio Network’s Countdown to Kickoff prior to Boilermakers home games.

Doug, who for nearly 10 years (2013-2022) managed LifePlex and The Zone Sports Complex both in Plymouth, has also appeared on television when he was a regular on Sports Scene 18, a weekly television show on WLFI-TV 18 (CBS, Lafayette).

Additionally, he has written for Athlon’s annual football and basketball preview magazines as well as Indiana’s Game, The Indianapolis Star’s former basketball website. Doug was also a regular contributor to RantSports.com, where he covered mainly Big Ten football and basketball and some NHL.

A long-time member of the Football Writers Association of America and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, Doug was also a John R. Wooden Award voter for a period of time.
