Lady Warriors Take Care of Business on the Road!
The Winamac Lady Warriors came into Harold Weinberg Gym in Knox determined to get a conference win, which is exactly what they did. As is usually the case, it took an entire team effort for the Lady Warriors to walk away with a hard fought 3-1 victory over their Hoosier North Athletic Conference foe. After going up 2-0 in the first two sets, the Lady Warriors let one slip away in the third set, with Knox showing an abundance of determination in getting their lone win of the night. “I was happy that we were able to push past that loss in the third set and be mentally tough”, Winamac Head Coach Heather Kasten said. “Definitely our serving tonight was much improved from some other matches that we’ve seen, so some good improvements there”.
The Lady Warriors benefited from some outstanding leadership on the court, “Taylor Jennings and Maggie Smith are definitely my go-to on the court” Kasten said with a smile. “I was very happy with Kaya Campbell in the back row” Kasten continued, “she did a phenominal job keeping the passes high for our hitters to be able to get to”.
Knox Head Coach Tammy Dearth was able to remain positive after the home loss, “We did change our lineup a little tonight, just lack of playing experience together, but when I sit there and look at it, Winamac is a pretty decent team” Dearth said. “They’ve got a good hitter, they’ve got some good passers, we adjusted, we just didn’t adjust enough”.
The Lady Warriors will be back in action Saturday, when they compete in the Kankakee Valley Invitational, while the Lady Redskins will have some time off, with their next match coming against Pioneer on September 10th.
