Berndt Will Continue Golf Career At Trine!

Yet another athlete from the Kankakee Valley area has decided to compete at the collegiate level!

Earlier this week, Knox Senior Jonah Berndt officially signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his golf career at Trine University in Angola, Indiana. The decision for Berndt was made easier by the curriculum offered at Trine, as the Redskin golfer was looking for a school which offered Golf Management as a Major.

“We first started by looking for any college with Golf Management, and Trine popped up” Berndt said. “It was the only college in the area that had Golf Management, so that was the main part that went into me deciding to go there”.

When it comes to adjusting to being a collegiate athlete, the coaches at Trine have given Berndt some basic, yet important, advice as he prepares for his first year.

“Just getting to know my team well and making myself feel at home is what they’ve said. Try to make myself a better person and a better golfer”.

The page has not yet turn for the Knox Senior, as the high school golf season still has things yet to be written. Berndt, who is having a tremendous Senior season, is remaining focused on his final high school season”.

“I’m just trying to end the year off good” Berndt said. “Trying to end the season undefeated and trying to go into Sectionals with a positive attitude, hopefully advancing on. The approach shots and first two shots are really what get me at first. If I get those down I think I can really start to exceed my game”.

From a team aspect, the Redskins are trying to stay focused on themselves, according to Berndt. Not worrying about what the opponents are doing will be crucial to the team’s postseason success.

“Coach has been saying to focus on ourselves, playing the mind game, not focusing on the opponent, and if you hit a bad shot, the shot is over, move on, you can’t do anything to change it”.

The future is bright for Knox Senior Jonah Berndt, who will be looking for a strong finish to his high school career, before making the jump to Trine University to compete as a collegiate athlete!
