Lady Redskins Remain Unbeaten After Win Over South Central

It was a night where the South Central Satellites would be honored by their school and home crowd, as it was the last regular season home game for the Lady Satellites, which made it Senior Night for Faith Biggs, Lexy Wade, and Amber Wolf. With a great crowd in attendance, in support of both schools, it would be the Lady Satellites who would get off to a good start, getting the visitors from Knox back on their heels with intense defense, and an attacking offense. The Lady Satellites would take an early 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, after Sophomore Delanie Gale made a pass to teammate Amber Wolf in the high post, who then turned to make a textbook bounce pass to fellow senior Lexy Wade, who was cutting along the baseline. Wade brought the pass in, to the right of the basket, took one dribble, and put in a reverse layup to give the Lady Satellites a burst of energy as the first quarter came to an end.

The second quarter would see Knox take control. As is usually the case with the Lady Redskins, it would be an all-around team effort that would lead to the undoing of their opponents. Knox would end up outscoring South Central 11-1 in the second quarter, behind great ball movement and an excellent effort by Junior Felicity Olejniczak, who would lead all scorers in the first half with seven points. The Redskins’ defense would also play a major factor in the first half momentum shift, as Knox would come away with six first half steals as a team. Many of those steal would result in points at the other end, as the Lady Redskins took a 21-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The second half would see much of the same, as Knox continued to find consistent scoring on the inside, while finding more ways of forcing turnovers. Olejniczak would continue to fill the gymnasium with energy on both ends of the floor, attacking on both offense as well as defense. The 5’6 guard would add nine more points to her scoring total in the second half, and would also end the game with five of the team’s twelve steals in the ballgame. It would also be at the free-throw line where the Lady Redskins would take advantage. Knox would end up outscoring South Central by eleven points at the free throw line, going 15-23, to South Central’s 4-7.

When all was said and done, the Lady Redskins’ consistent play from the second quarter on, would be too much for the Lady Satellites, as they seemed to wear South Central down as the game progressed. Knox’s Felicity Olejniczak would be named the Ashley Derrickson/Five Star Player of the Game on WKVI, while teammate Preston Minix’s second 3-pointer would be the Starke County Co-Op Play of the Game.

Knox improves to a perfect 19-0 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday when they wrap-up their three-game road trip at LaVille in Hoosier North Athletic Conference competition. South Central, meanwhile, drops to 12-6 on the year, and will be back into Porter County Conference play on Saturday when they travel to Westville.
