Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week 1-18-20

Makenna King

Our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week for this week is Makenna King, a one member Gymnastics team at South Central High School.

Makenna scored a perfect 10 on the vault on her second attempt at the Chesterton-Hobart-South Central gymnastics meet. It is reportedly the first time in Indiana High School History that an athlete has scored a perfect 10 on the vault!

The Sophomore sensation garnered the perfect score on what is termed a “Yurchenko Layout”, a difficult vault consisting of a roundoff before the vaulting table, a back handspring up to the table, and a straight leg backflip off of the table. It was the first time Makenna had attempted that particular vault in a high school meet.

McKenna made her mark in State vaulting competition as a Freshman when she led the entire State of Indiana with a first in all-around performance in the Chesterton Sectional.

Makenna is the daughter of Brent and Corey King, and also plays softball for the Satellites.

Congratulations to Makenna King of South Central High School, our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week!
