Boiler Tracks Blog Unveiled

Welcome to Boiler Tracks, a blog completely dedicated to Purdue Boilermaker sports.

My name is Doug Griffiths and I’m part of the MAX 98.3 FM and WKVI 99.3 FM family.

Needless to say, I’m thrilled beyond belief to have this space dedicated to my thoughts on the Old Gold and Black, and I will be providing them on a regular basis.

Anyone who knows me knows there are few, if any, as knowledgeable about Purdue sports history let alone are as passionate about Boilermaker athletics than I am.

I’m a Purdue graduate and been a Boilermaker fan since the 1970s. In addition, both of my parents graduated from Purdue as did my wife, and nine aunts and uncles hold degrees from the university, plus our daughter will earn two degrees come this May.

For 20 years (December 1991-July 2011, I was the editor of Purdue’s Gold & Black Illustrated, primarily covering football and men’s basketball.

I’ve covered more than 10 Purdue bowl games, including the 2001 Rose Bowl, and upwards of 20 NCAA Tournaments nationwide dating back to my days at the The Exponent.

I have covered Purdue basketball in Hawaii, Alaska, the Virgin Islands, and in several states including New Mexico, Texas and Maryland. My travels covering Boilermaker football have included Hawaii, California, Arizona, Texas, Florida and North Carolina among others.

I’ve authored the book Tales From Boilermaker Country in 2003 and he was the editor for Purdue Pride, the official game program of Boilermaker Football and Basketball for eight years (1995-2002).

I also wrote about Purdue sports for IndySpotsLegends.com.

Over the years, I have appeared on several radio shows, including the Purdue Sports Radio Network’s Countdown to Kickoff prior to Boilermaker home games

I appeared on television, too, when I was a regular on Sports Scene 18, a weekly show on WLFI-TV 18 (CBS, Lafayette)

Additionally, I have written Purdue articles for Athlon’s annual football and basketball preview magazines as well as Indiana’s Game, The Indianapolis Star’s former basketball website.

A member of the Football Writers Association of America and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, I was also a John R. Wooden Award voter for a period of time.

This is going to be a terrific endeavor. I will tell it like it is and how I see it. Some of the things I write about you will agree with while other things you will take issue with and that’s absolutely fine.

The way I see it, those of us that bleed gold and black have seen it all … or at least think we have. We have experienced the highest of highs – the thrill of victory – and the lowest of lows – the agony of defeat.

But no matter what Purdue people are ever grateful and ever true, and that’s what makes us great.

Lets go and of course BOILER UP!
