LAKEVILLE – It meant everything.
For the last four years there was something related to high school sports that meant everything to 2026 LaVille High School graduate Madison Singleton.
During volleyball, basketball, then track and field, there was always that one thing that Madison did with pride, respect, and determination.
That one, simple thing, was putting on her uniform.
“As my basketball coach Nick Amor has always said, ‘when putting on your jersey, you are not only representing yourself or your team, but you are representing LaVille and it means something’,” said Singleton, who was recently named the 2026 Dale E. Cox Female Athlete of the Year. “It should mean everything. (Of course that was paraphrasing, Nick always said it better) That comment stayed with me throughout my years of high school. Putting on a LaVille jersey meant EVERYTHING to me!”
Madison is the 24th female to receive the prestigious Athlete of the Year honor since 2005.
She was a three-sport athlete that brought grit and a willingness to get floor burns. She was dynamite in a small package that loved to play for all of Lancer Nation.
“When I found out I was recognized as the Dale E Cox Female Athlete of the year I felt beyond blessed,” said Singleton, who will be headed to St. Mary’s College in the fall. “I have worked very hard for the past four years of high school balancing my academics, athletics, and work. I worked tirelessly training during practices, and performed to the best of my abilities on the court and on the track. My athletic performances made me the person that I am. I am so grateful that my work paid off!”
To go with her nine letters, she was also a member of the National Honor Society, DECA, Art Club, Pep Club, and Student Council. While in DECA, Madison was extremely involved at LaVille, receiving a DECA Diamond Scholarship.
The chapter also received national DECA recognition for its Lancer Lounge that Madison served, for which she received the BARista award.
She was also recognized as a member of the top 10 students in the Class of 2026.
“Being a student athlete at LaVille has been the most memorable and rewarding experience I have ever had,” said Singleton, who plans to study Accounting and Criminal Justice. “The bonds that you grow with your teammates are unforgettable. The laughs, vulnerability, tears, wins, losses, and everything else that comes with sports are shared with the people that you trust and love the most while participating in sports at LaVille. I have obtained lifelong role models, friends, and hopefully the ability to also have a lasting impact on underclassmen. I LOVED the opportunity to be a student athlete at LaVille.”
Following graduation, we asked Madison what advice she might give to her younger self and younger student athletes.
“If I could give advice to the younger version of myself, I would say to take some more time for yourself. Do not worry so much about your performance and what others may think about you because it always makes you outwork yourself. Your efforts are more than enough!
“My advice for current younger student athletes is to take school seriously! School should always come first. Not only do your grades determine if you can play or not but also your self discipline. It pays off.”
Madison closed our time with much love and gratitude.
“I want to thank my friends, my family, teammates and most importantly the people at LaVille that made my achievements possible. The support was never ending and unconditional. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
