Spyders take loss to Post 94 in Colvin Classic

PLYMOUTH – Plymouth Post 27 had a tough loss over the weekend to Valpo post 94 by a 1-0 final.
Both teams were strong on the mound on Sunday, but Post 94 was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 1-0 victory over Plymouth Post 27 Junior Spyders. Owen Kirchenstein started the game for Plymouth Post 27 Spyders and recorded 15 outs giving up three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one.

Jimmie Shifflett earned the win for Post 94. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over five and one-third innings, striking out eight and walking four.

Preston Wolfe took the loss for Plymouth. The right-handed pitcher went two innings, giving up one run on three hits, striking out none and walking one.

Roman Snedeker went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Post in hits. Preston Jessen stole two bases.
Nate Nightingale and Dillon Rodriguez each collected two hits for Post 94. Gordon Wineland went 1-for-2 at the with one run batted in.

The game was the Judge Colvin Classic. Colvin has been a licensed baseball official for more than twenty-five years and coached or managed baseball at some level for the last 40 years. In 2001, with the help of the men and women of Post 27 and local business support, Coach Colvin pioneered the very first Plymouth Post 27 baseball team. Over the next sixteen seasons the Diamond Spyders would win 301 games, 10 sectional championships, 3 regional championships, a state runner-up in 2003 and a state championship is 2004.
