Plymouth gymnasts drop match with Elkhart

ELKHART — The PHS gymnastics team faced off with sectional foe Elkhart in a midweek meet on Wednesday with the Lions defeating the Pilgrims by a score of 103.5 to 99.4.
Despite the loss, Plymouth had some solid performances and placed gymnasts in the top six in all events.
Gymnasts in the top six received ribbons.
On the vault, Jersey Hunter placed first with a score of 9.2, followed by Joy Everett in third place and Arielle Ferman in fourth. On the bars, Hunter placed fifth.
Three Pilgrims also placed in the balance beam competition with Hunter in first with a score of 9.35, Lila Hanyzewski in fifth, and Ferman in sixth place. On the floor, Hunter was second and Hanyzewski was fourth.
In the all-around for all four events, Plymouth took four of the top six spots. Hunter was first with a score of 35.4. Hanyzewski was fourth, Ferman was fifth, and Amyra Benchaar was sixth.
Plymouth’s next meet will be the Western Invite in Russiaville on Saturday with competition beginning at Noon. That will be followed by a trip to LaPorte for a meet on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
