Glenn’s Whitmer qualifies for state
WALKERTON — John Glenn Girls Wrestling competed at the IHSAA Regional at Goshen on Friday. Five Falcon wrestlers represented the school
Nora Guseilla, Miah Lichtenbager, and Ava Nelson dropped their first-round matches and were eliminated from the state series. Olivia Nifong won her first-round match against her foe from Crown Point with a first-period fall but eventually lost her quarterfinal bout, eliminating her from the tournament as well.
Oliva finishes her time at John Glenn as the career wins leader with 34 wins and plans to wrestle at Manchester University next season.
Britain Whitmer becomes the third girls’ state qualifier in school history. Brit won her first two matches of the regional against Crown Point and Knox respectively, punching her ticket to Indianapolis next Friday for the Inaugural IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals.
In the semifinal round, she wrestled the eventual runner-up from Lake Central getting pinned right at the end of the first period. Setting her up for a Sectional final rematch with Mishawaka’s Onica Gradeless, eventually dropping the 3rd place match 10-0.
Next weeks IHSAA State Finals will be at The Corteva Coliseum at the Indiana State Fair Grounds.
