Plymouth takes a win at Bremen
BREMEN — Plymouth travelled to Bremen Monday night to take on Marshall County rival Bremen, coming home with a solid 4-1 victory over the host Lions.
Singles winners for the Pilgrims Monday night were Juniors Sophia Cantero and Mia Hartley, who took the 2S and 3S matches in straight sets. Doubles winners for the Pilgrims Monday were 1D Marley Christy-Emma Jackson and 2D Marisa Langfeldt-Natalie Sheely. Both Pilgrim doubles teams continued to show aggressive play and took their matches in straight sets as well.
After losing the first set, Tynley Gantz responded in the second set by taking a 5-2 lead, but couldn’t hang on against Bremen’s top singles player, Emma Lawmaster, falling in straight sets.
“Overall, I’m happy to get a win against a team that is a traditionally strong program like Bremen,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “We saw some good things on all the courts. I like how Tynley responded after losing the first set, but wish she could have gotten her match to the third set. Our goal is to keep improving each match so we can finish the year strong. We will have a tough test tomorrow night against a strong (and undefeated) Goshen team, but I would like our chances if we could bring our best focus and effort into the match.”
Plymouth is 7-5 on the year.
Plymouth travels to Goshen on Tuesday with a 5:30 PM start. Bremen is at Knox with a 5:30 PM start.
