Plymouth’s girls’ track qualifies two, breaks two records
WARSAW — Plymouth’s girls track team will send two qualifiers to Indianapolis on June 7 and came home with two new school records in regional action at Warsaw.
Jersey Hunter qualified for the state meet, finishing runner-up to Swanson from SB Washington. It will be her fifth trip to the state finals in her high school track and gymnastics career so far. She eclipsed her own 100m hurdle record by .01.
In the 1600m, Vivy Miller and Lena Jones were fresh and ready to compete in a stacked field! Both ran outstanding races as Vivy took third place, earning her first state meet ticket, while Lena cut almost 10 seconds for a new PR as she dipped under the 5:30 barrier for the first time with a 9th place finish.
In the 4x100m relay, the Plymouth squad has been very consistent, tying the school record at sectionals. The quartet of Yuli Contreras, Arielle, Kathryn Morrison, and Hunter ran a pretty clean relay and crossed the line as they smashed the school record by .64 seconds.
“Super proud of our effort tonight, we also scored 20 points, placing 12th with a small contingent who outperformed their seeds and along the way we secured two state qualifiers, two school records and PRs that highlighted the amazing job our girls did against a very stellar regional field,” said Plymouth coach Rick Stiles.
Plymouth’s qualifiers will compete at North Central High School in the IHSAA State Meet next Saturday, June 7.
