Triton wins thriller to take HNAC sweep of Culver
BOURBON — Triton’s baseball team was able to grab a sweep of Culver in conference baseball action, rolling to a 14-3 win at Culver and then needed two in the ninth to hold off the Cavs at home in nine innings, 7-6.
In game two, Triton took a lead into the fifth when Culver took it back with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to make it 5-3.
Triton tied it in the bottom of the seventh, and in the ninth, Culver took a 6-5 lead, and the Trojans plated two for the win.
In game one, Braxton Kaufman had three RBIs as part of a two-hit night, Max Johnson added three more hits and RBIs for the Trojans, adding a double. Levi McFarland had a three-hit game for Triton.
Culver got a pair of hits and an RBI from Camran Whitworth and a pair of hits from Jonas McCuen.
Kaufman took the win on the mound for Triton, Camran Whitworth took the loss for Culver.
Culver had better luck on the return trip to Bourbon as they got three hits, including a double and a pair of RBIs from Hunter Albert. Caleb McCuen had two hits, a double, a triple, and an RBI, and Drake Zorich had two hits and an RBI.
Triton got two hits and a double from Kaufman, Johnson had an RBI as part of a two-hit night.
Damon Bingamon took the win with five innings in relief of McFarland. McFarland struck out eight and didn’t walk a hitter or allow an earned run. Bingamon struck out nine and also didn’t walk a hitter, giving up just two hits.
Jonas McCuen was the hard-luck loser, striking out nine and walking four in eight innings. Brother Caleb McCuen took the loss in relief.
