CULVER Joseph Wibbeler is the top coxswain for the Culver Military Academy rowing team.
On April 26, Wibbeler helped lead Culver’s Varsity Men’s 4+ boat to an open-water victory at the Kensington Sprints in Milford, Michigan. The Varsity Men’s 4+ is the top boat in the Culver men’s program.
This victory positions the crew as the top contender for gold at the Midwest Scholastic Championships, scheduled for May 10-11 in Milford, Michigan.
Rowing coach Nathan Walker said Wibbeler’s “exceptional hard work” has been instrumental to the team’s success.
“He has a tireless work ethic and has done a tremendous job setting a high level of expectation for our rowers and coxswains,” Walker said. “He constantly does the thankless, quiet work behind the scenes to ensure the boathouse and team are functioning effectively.”
Wibbeler and his crew aim to compete for a national championship at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Regatta, which will take place May 23–24 in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
Wibbeler plans to continue rowing after high school at the College of the Holy Cross.
