Plymouth aces Washington
PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Boys Tennis began the 2025 campaign hosting South Bend Washington in a dual match at the Mary Beth Hunter Tennis Complex in Plymouth. Aided by three default wins, the Pilgrims completed a 5-0 team sweep.
Sophomore Liam Hanyzewski and freshman Caleb Edmiston were the only Pilgrim players to have an opponent on Monday, with Hanyzewski winning 6-2, 6-1 in the top singles spot, while Edmiston took the 2S position without losing a game.
Three singles, Logan Nelson, one doubles, Nick Manzuk and Owen Walleske, and two doubles, Benson Prater and Landon Tyler, all won by default, as some Panther players did not have playing eligibility yet. Hanyzewski, Edmistion, Nelson, Prater, and Tyler all got their first career Varsity wins.
“I was excited to see us compete against another team, but unfortunately, Washington only had two eligible players tonight,” said Plymouth coach Brad Heack. “We have a very inexperienced team, so for us to start out the season with a win and gain some confidence is a positive thing. Both Liam and Caleb are younger guys, and I enjoyed getting to watch them play tonight, and I’m excited to see their improvement throughout this season. If we stay focused and work hard every day, I think this Pilgrims team can really be improved by the end of the season.”
Next Match: Plymouth Varsity/JV travels to John Glenn on Wednesday, 8/20/25 for a 5 PM start.
