MUAC men 1-1 in Chicago
CHICAGO — The Marian University Ancilla Men’s Basketball team experienced an eventful trip to Chicago over the weekend, capped off by their second victory of the season Friday night, a 116-87 comeback win against Wilbur Wright College. Saturday afternoon, they played tough short-handed, but eventually fell 110-94 at Malcolm X College. The 407 points scored over the two games is incredible, but they also lost a starter to injury.
at Wilbur Wright (W 116-87): The Chargers actually trailed this one 44-42 when they went to the locker room at halftime, but a hot-shooting eruption by Sophomore Kenneth Grant helped them dominate the second half of this one. Grant was an impressive 15-23 from the field and 11-17 from long range, plus he buried two of his three free throws to lead all scorers with 43 points. Grant topped his career-best of 33 points from November of 2024 by 10. Freshman Shawn Donaldson (18 points in 22 minutes) was attempting to keep pace with Grant but was unfortunately knocked out of the contest with a second-half injury. Freshman guard Omari Evans (17 points) and Freshman forward Kayden English (16 points) also scored in double figures. Evans posted a double-double with 10 assists, plus he pulled in 7 caroms to lead the team in rebounding.
at Malcolm X (L 110-94): Marian Ancilla faced a hot-shooting Hawks team and lost the rebounding battle by 11, despite being short-handed and managing to put up 47 points each half. Freshman Omari Evans finished a strong weekend with the best performance of his young career, scoring 34 points on 13-23 shooting (4-10 from 3-point range), collecting 5 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists in the loss.
