Plymouth sweeps Mishawaka on Senior Night

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Boys Tennis Team hosted Mishawaka Tuesday night at the Mary Beth Hunter Tennis Complex for their Senior Night match, winning by a 5-0 final score.
The Cavemen only fielded five players for Tuesday’s match and played them in the 1S, 1D, and 2D positions, giving the Pilgrims a 2-0 advantage before the start of play. 2S Caleb Edmiston and 3S Landon Tyler are credited with Varsity singles wins.
On the courts that were played Tuesday night, 1D Nick Manzuk-Owen Walleske won by “double bagel”, while 1S Liam Hanyzewski lost just one game en route to a straight set win. Because it was Senior Night, normal Pilgrim 2S player Jonah Rich was moved to the 2D position on Tuesday so he could play a match. He paired with Benson Prater, where the newly formed Pilgrim doubles duo had slightly more resistance in a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Liam, Caleb, Landon, Nick, Owen, Benson, and Jonah all earned their first NLC Conference wins of the season.
Five Plymouth Seniors were honored after the match – Players Nick Manzuk, Jonah Rich, and Owen Walleske, and Senior Managers Sophia Cantero and Mia Hartley.
“I wish all our varsity guys were able to get a match against Mishawaka tonight, but we are excited to earn a conference win, especially on Senior Night,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “We have a tough stretch of matches coming up, so hopefully we can continue to build confidence and compete hard against some great competition.”
Plymouth travels to Culver Academy Wednesday for a match with the Eagles, starting about 5 PM.
