Lions just short in semi-final
NAPPANEE — In a rematch of last year’s semi-final, the Lions of Bremen would face the Panthers of Northwood coming away with a tough loss 2-1.
The match was intense from the opening kickoff, and the Lions were able to create numerous chances in the first half. With only 8 minutes remaining in the half, freshman Lincoln Yoder connected with sophomore Alan Barrera, who expertly crossed the ball to senior Jared Alvarado for a headed goal at the far post.
The Lions would keep the lead until the 55th minute when Northwood would strike back.
In overtime, Northwood found a goal with 5 minutes remaining in the second period on a foul call that led to a free kick, but the Lions fought hard, creating numerous opportunities of their own at the end of the game. The Northwood defense and keeper made big blocks and saves in the last two minutes as the Lions increased the pressure on goal, fighting for the comeback.
