MUAC women roll out to 6-1

DONALDSON — Last week, the MUAC Lady Chargers picked up two more victories in a 79-49 decision over Montcalm on Wednesday, followed by a hard-fought, 71-55 win over a good Danville team Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers are now 6-1 on the season, trying to replicate last season, when they finished 27-5 and advanced to the Region 12 tournament at Mott Community College. In 2024-2025, the Chargers began the year with 7 straight wins before dropping their first contest, so they can match that 7-1 start this coming weekend when they travel to Chicago for a pair of games.
MUAC vs. Montcalm (W 79-49):
Marian Ancilla took charge from the tip and led the game 19-8 after one quarter, then 40-19 at half, following a strong defensive showing early. The Chargers were able to get much deeper into their bench in the second half, and finished with the 30-point win. Sophomores Aaliyah Keil (20 points), Annika Davis (19 points), and Santana Eubanks (12 points) each scored in double figures. Eubanks led the team in rebounding (8 rebounds), while Keil led the team in assists (7) and steals (8). Freshman Emma McVey had her best game of the season, scoring 7 points, pulling down 4 caroms, and collecting 3 steals in the win.

MUAC vs. Danville Area (W 71-55):
Saturday’s game was a lot more competitive, with the Chargers actually trailing this one 33-32 at the intermission. In the third quarter, however, Marian Ancilla used one of its best defensive efforts of the season, holding the Jaguars scoreless over the first five minutes of the third quarter while amassing a lead by as many as 20 points. By the start of the fourth, it was 57-41 Chargers. Late in the last period, it got a bit contentious, but the Chargers managed to maintain their lead and survive a hard-fought victory that was much closer than the score might suggest. Sophomore Santana Eubanks was tremendous, scoring 33 points and pulling down 11 rebounds for yet another double-double. She was 13-21 from the field and 7-10 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Aaliyah Keil also posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Sophomore Annika Davis reached double figures as well with 15 points of her own.
The Chargers are back in action this weekend as they head to Chicago for a Friday/Saturday back-to-back at Wilbur Wright College and Malcolm X College. Game times are 5 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday local time.
