Triton girls third at Peru
PERU — The Triton Lady Trojan wrestlers turned in one of the strongest team performances in program history on Saturday, powering their way to a third-place finish at the highly competitive Peru Invitational. Facing a field of 23 teams, Triton placed nine wrestlers on the podium and briefly led the entire event after the opening round.
Despite competing without standouts Gabrielle and Andrea Ford, both sidelined due to medical forfeits, the Lady Trojans stormed through the early brackets. Nearly every Triton wrestler won her first-round match, putting the team squarely at the top of the leaderboard and signaling a promising day ahead.
The intensity rose in the second round as the competition tightened, but Triton battled through the adversity. Several wrestlers clawed their way through consolation rounds, putting the Lady Trojans in position for a strong team finish. By the final rounds, Triton had several athletes fighting for placement and ultimately secured a well-earned third-place team finish with 126 points, trailing only champion Benton Central (181) and runner-up Western (170).
