PLYMOUTH (IN) – The Marian University Ancilla Softball team hosted Glen Oaks Community College Friday afternoon, and the two results were as different as night and day. In the first game, the Chargers found themselves on the losing end of a 3-2 decision in 9 innings, then in the second game, they were victims of a 13-2 defeat in just 6 innings. On the very next pitch, Freshman Christina Grabowski hit a double to right field, scoring Beasley, and knotting the game at 2 runs apiece. Following the third out in the inning, the teams were tied and headed to extra innings.
In the top of the 9th inning, the Vikings managed a 1-out single. Their runner then advanced to third base on a wild pitch, and she was then driven in by a single on the next offering, and it was 3-2 Glen Oaks. GAME-2 (L 13-2 in 6 innings): Game-2 was a bit more lopsided, with Glen Oaks scoring multiple runs in 5 of the 6 innings, including 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Marian Ancilla found their offense in the middle innings, scoring a run in the bottom of the 4th inning and another in the bottom of the 5th inning.
In the 4th, with 2 outs already recorded, Freshman Samanta Mendoza popped up and reached on an error. Freshman Sophie Konyndyk, who was standing on third base, was able to come home and score, making it 7-1 at that time. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Freshman Abby Harmon led off with a single, she stole second and third base, then eventually Sophomore Cayla Beasley drove her home with a single of her own, making the score 9-2.
Harmon finished the game with 3 total stolen bases. Harmon, Beasley, and Konyndyk each had a pair of hits, all singles. Beasley added a stolen base of her own.
The Charger softball team is in a holding pattern at the moment. They were scheduled to play Jackson College over the weekend, but field conditions forced postponements, and they are now scheduled to play at Jackson on Tuesday (4/21). They play Edison State at home on Wednesday (4/22).
