Bremen gets shut out INSC win

MENTONE — Bremen’s varsity baseball team journeyed south on Thursday to take on the Vikings of Tippy Valley. Bremen returned home with a 12-0 victory in 5, improving to 11-2 on the season.
The Lions were led by strong pitching from junior southpaws JJ Cencelewski and David Monesmith, who struck out five and allowed only three baserunners over five combined innings. Cencelewski picked up his third conference win with the start.
Offensively, the Lions came out clicking, with the first nine hitters either reaching base or driving in a run. Cencelewski drove in CF Corban Van Vuren with a double to open the scoring. RBIs from LF Zack Buszkiewicz, 2B Jace Pippenger, and RF Jack Wildauer put the Lions up 5-0 before taking the field. Cencelewski worked an 8 pitch bottom of the first to get the Lions back up to hit.
Zack Rouch was hit by a pitch for the second time in as many innings to start the frame. Courtesy runner Maddux Hickman stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a single by SS Aiden Alvarado. Pippenger drove in another with his second sac fly, and Max Barnes reached on an error to plate Bremen’s 7th run. A 4-6-3 double play in the bottom half kept the Vikings off the board.
Bremen added four more in the third, highlighted by a long two-run triple from Rouch, followed by a double by Cencelewski. David Monesmith came on to get the last six outs and fired two perfect innings, striking out three along the way. Lions’ pitching didn’t walk any batters and the defense had a sound outing behind them. They will host Tippy on Friday with a 5:30 first pitch.
