Plymouth falls in NLC match up
PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Boys Tennis Team hosted Wawasee Thursday night for their third match in four days, falling by 5-0 final score. Thursday’s match was the opening NLC conference match for both teams.
Plymouth 3S player Adan Macias and 1S player Liam Hanyzewski both fell quickly in their opening sets, but rallied back to play much longer and more competitive second sets.
Plymouth’s 2D duo of Carter Breeding and Cole Cain played lots of good points and games in a match that felt much more competitive than the final scores indicated. The Pilgrims’ 1D team of Logan Nelson and Benson Prater then fell in another competitive straight set match that could have gone either way, to put Plymouth down 4-0 with the 2S match still playing in the initial set.
Plymouth’s Caleb Edmiston played his best match to date at 2S, despite losing his match in straight sets. His match featured many long rallies and deuce games, with only a few points deciding the outcome of the opening set. Caleb lost a little momentum in the second set, but continued to stroke the ball well and play solid tennis until the outcome was decided.
“Overall, I thought we played a solid match tonight. Wawasee’s team returned much more experience than us this season, and despite losing all the matches in straight sets, the matches were all very competitive across the board,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “I thought we got better as a team tonight and made some positive strides in the right direction. We need to work on some much-needed improvements in practice tomorrow, but I’m encouraged by a lot of what I saw tonight and am confident that we will improve a lot as the season progresses.”
Next Match: Plymouth Varsity hosts Leo at 10:00 AM and FW Carroll at 12:30 PM (approximately) in the CrossRoads Classic Tourney on Saturday, 8/22/26, at Plymouth.
