Triton wins over rival Tippy Valley

Tippecanoe Valley and Triton restored their countyline rivalry Friday night in the Trojan Trench.  Triton used the hot hand of an unsuspecting senior to score a 49-37 victory over the visiting Vikings.

Triton’s Landon Kaufman had just 5 three pointers heading into the Tippy Valley game.  Afterwards, it was Kaufman’s 5 three’s against the Vikings that helped Triton to the win.

Kaufman finished with 15 points by games end.

After shooting 33-percent in the first two quarters, Triton was 50-percent from the field in the second half. Improved defensive play by the Trojans had Valley shooting just 34-percent from the field after halftime. The Vikings shot 47-percent in the first half.

Thacker led the Vikings with 12 points and just gave Triton fits.  Triton did well to take Thacker out of the offensive equation in the second half.

Lost in Kaufman’s performance was the defensive effort by Triton’s switching defense.

Triton forced nine Valley turnovers, seven of which came in the second half. The Trojans also won the battle on the boards, 33-23.   Sellers led Triton with eight rebounds.
