Plymouth tennis beaten by NorthWood

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Boys Tennis Team hosted another NLC Conference foe in Centennial Park on Tuesday, falling to the NorthWood Panthers by a 4-1 final score.
Overall, all three singles courts were highly competitive and very evenly matched, while the doubles courts both went in NorthWood’s favor in pretty lopsided matches.
With Plymouth’s 1D team of Logan Nelson-Benson Prater and 2D team of Carter Breeding-Cole Cain falling in straight sets, that left the final outcome to be decided with the singles matches. All three singles matches ended within about a minute of each other.
Plymouth 2S player Caleb Edmison won his first set 6-2, then lost a close second set, lost momentum, and ultimately fell in three sets. Plymouth 3S player Adan Macias led his big-hitting opponent for much of the first set, but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-1.
Plymouth 1S player Liam Hanyzewski pulled out the lone Pilgrim win of the night. Liam won his first set 6-3, and trailed 5-4 in the second set before rallying to take the final three games of the set (7-5) and earn a straight set win. It was also a nice redemption win for Liam, as he lost to the same opponent from NorthWood twice (in three sets) last year.
“It was another tough match for our guys tonight. I thought the singles were very evenly matched and our doubles could have competed better,” said Plymouth coach Brad Haeck. “We will continue to push our guys to focus on controlling the controllables and being coachable, and hopefully we can make some positive strides each match. It’s more about getting better each match than the final outcomes, and hopefully we can see improvement with every opportunity to play. I’m happy that Liam was able to pull out his match at the end and earn a redemption win from a couple of losses he suffered last season.”
Next Match: Plymouth Varsity/JV will host Bremen on Wednesday 9/9/26, 4:30PM.
