Culver Runs To Victory!

On a warm night in Union Mills, with fans enjoying the festivities at South Central High School, the Culver Cavaliers took advantage of ideal field conditions, and were able to run the style of offense that is expected from a Mike Zehner coached team. RUN, RUN, and RUN! The Cavs were able to benefit from the efforts of a hard working offensive line, as well as not one, not two, but three 100+ yard rushers in a 52-22 win over the Satellites.

Leading the rushing attack for Culver was Carter Stevens, who had 21 carries for 183 yards and three touchdowns. Stevens was seen time and time again breaking through tackles, and dragging defenders along the ground as he muscled out extra yardage at the end of many of his runs.

It was not a one man show for the Cavs, as Zac Ditmire was called on early and often throughout the game. The Senior running back had 19 carries on the night for 119 yards and a one yard touchdown run. The third leading rusher on the night for Culver was Sophomore Jalen King, who carried the ball 17 times for 110 yards and 3 touchdown. King illustrated his incredible athleticism on his second touchdown of the ball game, when he was able to go 26 yards for the score (you can see the video of this touchdown on the Sportstothemax.net Facebook Page). In all, the Cavaliers totaled 434 yards on the ground through 67 rushing attempts in the win. In addition to a strong running game, the Cavaliers were able to provide a good number of highlights defensively. Senior defensive back Donavan Ziaja was a terror in the secondary as he was able to intercept a pass, and was a constant force in run support throughout the evening.

The Satellites were not without highlights on the night. The biggest spark plug for South Central was Jake Osburn, who showcased his all-around athleticism for four quarters. Osburn carried the workload on the ground for Buzz Schoff’s Satellites, as he carried the ball 24 times for 173 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was also able to provide highlight runs of 35 and 25 yards in the effort. Osburn’s performance was not limited to only rushing attempts. He was also able to provide a touchdown reception off the arm of quarterback Brady Glisic from 15 yards out.

When push comes to shove, it was the size and strength of the Cavaliers that got the job done. Both teams showcased great effort on an absolutely perfect night for football, at a great facility. As the teams look to move forward from this game, it is exciting to think how much talent there is on both rosters, leading us to become increasingly excited about the potential of the Culver Cavaliers and the South Central Satellites as the season continues to progress. One thing is for sure, when fans go to watch Culver or South Central any week of the season this year, they are going to get their money’s worth!
