Lady Redskins Open Season With Home Win!

After back-to-back Sectional Championship season, the Knox Lady Redskins knew it would be vital to get off to a good start this year, and not begin with a let down. The Lady Redskins played host to the Hebron Lady Hawks, and were able to take care of business in their season opener, coming away with a 56-38 win over their opponent from the Porter County Conference.

“Going into this game we just told them you can’t take them lightly” Knox Head Coach Neill Minix said about his pregame talk. “Last year I think we did that” he continued. “We went over to their place and didn’t play our best basketball and they executed down the stretch and got us”.

The Lady Redskins had great contributions all game long from multiple individuals. Minix was pleased with the overall performance of his players.

“I thought Megan Bolen did a good job at point guard” Minix said of his newfound 6’1 Sophomore point guard. “She’s never played point guard for us. It’s a big job for her and I thought she handled it really well. Remi Jordan played really well” Minix continued, “Felicity (Olejniczak) did a good job tonight. She was all over the place on defense and looked to attack the rim on offense, which we like to see”.

While the Lady Redskins were happy with their offensive production, it was the defensive end of the floor that really had the players excited.

“I think the biggest key was our defense” Junior Felicity Olejniczak said following the win. “We had to stay strong and know where everything was going”.

“I think it was our teamwork and how we connected on the court well” Junior forward Remi Jordan said after the game. “We all knew what to do and we worked really well together”.

It was an energy filled first game for the Lady Redskins. While the postseason is a long ways off, many are wondering if this team will be able to make it a 3-peat in the Sectional. One thing is for sure, the energy level is where it needs to be to start the season. If the ‘Skins are able to keep that level high from start to finish, they are going to be a tough out all season long.
