Our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week for this week is Gunner Wagner, a member of the football team at Knox Community High School.

Gunner helped lead his team to their first win under new Head Coach Russ Radtke with explosive runs in an important Hoosier North Athletic Conference win over Culver, 58-28.

After Culver had recovered an onside kick on the opening kickoff and took the lead after a seven minute drive, Wagner scored on the Redskins’ first play from scrimmage on a fifty-five yard run to give the Redskins the lead at 7-6. The 6’0, 175 pound Senior then broke the game open early in the third quarter with a sixty-eight yard run that gave Knox an insurmountable 37-20 lead. In addition to those two big touchdowns, Gunner carried the ball eight times for one hundred-sixty eight yards averaging an unbelievable twenty-one yards per carry! To top off the night, Wagner was also a member of the Homecoming Court.

A three sport athlete, Gunner is also a member of the basketball and baseball teams at Knox. In addition, he is also a member of the National Honor Society and serves as a Freshman Mentor as well.

Gunner is the son of Dave and Rebekah Wagner and will be featured next week on the Saturday Sportsline.

Congratulations to Gunner Wagner of Knox Community High School, our Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Week!

Gunner will receive a certificate suitable for framing, a history of the award, and a t-shirt commemorating his achievement. He will also be eligible for our “Tyler Roth/WKVI Athlete of the Year” award next spring, which carries with it a beautiful plaque and a college scholarship compliments of WKVI and the family of Tyler Roth.
