Geller Signs With St. Xavier

Knox Senior football player Braxton Geller made his college decision official on Thursday night at Knox Community High School. After being part of one of the most successful four year runs in program history, the tight end and linebacker will be taking his abilities to the next level, after signing his National Letter of Intent to continue his football career at St. Xavier University!

Geller was a key member of the 2019-20 Sectional Championship team at Knox, giving valuable minutes on both sides of the ball, helping the Redskins to their first ever football Sectional Championship. With the experiences playing under Head Coaches John Hendryx and Russ Radtke, Geller is excited to play for a championship contender at the NAIA level.

“They’re a National Championship contender every year” Geller said following his signing. “I wanted to go somewhere where I’d have a chance to win a ring. Obviously, it’s something different and tougher” Geller continued, “but they’re with me the whole way. They’re already helping me out, they’ll be getting me ‘Hudl’ soon” (a form of video scouting used to breakdown game film) “They’ll get me on track real quick”.

When it comes to expectations going into his first year as an NAIA college athlete, Geller is confident that he will be ready for the experience. During his time at Knox, Braxton was able to play at multiple positions, both offensively and defensively, as he spent a lot of downs at linebacker, while occasionally putting his hand in the dirt along the defensive line, as well as tight end on offense. The Redskin Senior is licking his chops at the opportunity to play linebacker during his time in college, but understands he has a lot to work on prior to leaving for Chicago.

“Obviously, the weight room (is what he will focus on) because it’s a whole different game up there” Geller said with a serious tone. “They’re obviously bigger, faster, stronger. Then school wise, time management is the big thing. Just have to learn how to tie everything together”.

From an academic standpoint, Braxton is excited to be majoring in business during his time at St. Xavier.

“I would love to be a C.E.O. of an investment company” Geller said with a smile. “That’s something that has always interested me. Just the risk involved with it. Obviously, there’s a lot of money in there too, so that’s always nice”.

Having been a multi-sport athlete during his four years at Knox, Geller had no hesitation in giving some advice to the younger athletes of the Kankakee Valley.

“Always work hard. You never know who’s watching and you’ve got to reach out to them!”

Best of luck to Knox Senior Braxton Geller on his future athletic career as a collegiate football player at St. Xavier University!
