Plymouth, Bremen cross country
BREMEN — The Plymouth XC teams traveled to Jane’s Park in Bremen last night for a four-way meet. The girls race went off first, and Brooklyn Scruggs (10) led the Pilgrims. Two packs of Plymouth gals followed: a group of Taylor Schadek, Amelia Gifford, Deimante Zabulyte, and Jenna Blake, then a group of freshmen Grace Flora, Molly Myers, and Luci Hamand. Brooklyn ended up second in the race in 20:40, which is 11 seconds off her fastest 5k from last season. Senior Taylor Schadek smashed last year’s PR by 31 seconds. Freshman Amelia Gifford broke 22 minutes and is closing in on Plymouth’s Top 50 times. The ladies were second overall behind a very solid Fairfield team.
For Bremen’s girls, the team lowered its average from 24:56 last week to 23:56. Gracey Moyer led the team with a 20:40, followed by Lauren Hartsell at 22:38, both season bests. Emma Waidner also ran a season-best 26:28, while Charlotte Rink improved to 28:30 and Beatrice Farabaugh ran 29:04, with both recording season-best performances. The girls continue to make steady progress early in the season, with tonight’s six season-best performances and improved team average providing plenty of positives to build on.
On the Plymouth boys’ side, Nolan Carroll (11) led the Pilgrims, where he was 2nd overall in 17:29, only 8 seconds off of Plymouth’s Top 50 lists. This was also Nolan’s fastest 5k ever. Teammates Rusty Antrim (12), Henry Fort (11), Aaron Zuniga (12), and Luckas Hagg (9) all also ran their fastest 5k’s ever. The boys’ team ran well but fell third behind both J.Glenn and Fairfield in close team races.
The Bremen boys team had a strong showing, posting a season-best team average of 20:14, with seven of eight runners recording season-best times. Joseph Davis led the team with a 4th-place season-best finish in 17:43, followed by Jordan Krallman in 7th at 18:38 and Mazerick Winters in 12th at 19:09. Both had season-best times. Sawyer Miller set a season best with 18th in 19:42, while Cameron Krallman ran a season-best 20:09 for 22nd. Sean Clark and Carson Berger also recorded season-best times of 21:38 and 22:53, respectively.
