Short Signs With Wabash

On a beautiful Spring afternoon, Knox Senior Cade Short made the biggest commitment of his life, as he signed his Letter of Intent to continue his football career at Wabash College. A key member to the Redskins Sectional Championship team of 2019 and one of the most versatile athletes in the Kankakee Valley, Short is anticipating great things as he prepares for his first year as a collegiate athlete.

“The coaches said I can make an impact in my first year” Short said of what he is anticipating. “It all just depends on how hard I work. I plan to get on the field and hopefully make an impact”.

During his time as a Knox Redskin, Short was relied on to make plays in all three aspects of the game, offense, defense, and special teams, making him a recruiting dream. His ability to execute physically as well as prepare mentally, often times led to him making big plays on the field for the Redskins. As he gets ready for his first season at Wabash, Cade is anticipating being on the offensive side of the ball. While the level of excitement is high for Short, he knows he has work to do before his first college season.

“I’m going to be on offense, they want me at receiver. I need to get stronger than what I have been because I know it’s going to be a lot more physical, and I’ll be working on routes, just making sure that I’m a better route runner”.

Cade has been a leader at Knox, not just in athletics, but in the classroom as well, as he has been an honor student all four years. His experience as an athlete has molded his mindset on what he will be studying at Wabash. Early in Cade’s high school career, he suffered a shoulder injury which he had to battle with throughout his time at Knox, leading him to select a career in Health Science, with the ultimate goal of becoming a physical therapist.

“Sophomore year when I got injured, I had to battle back from that. Just the thought of helping others recover from their injuries just started to become a priority for me”.

After four years of hard work at Knox Community High School, Cade’s advice to younger athletes was not too surprising, following his college signing.

“Never stop working. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the offseason or another sport. You just have to keep working and anything can happen”.

Cade’s first game as a member of the Little Giants will be on September 4th, when they travel to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
