Area Schools Plan To Form New Conference
Some of our area schools have been in the process of looking for new conference homes for quite time and now they not only have a plan in place, but they will be leaving their existing conferences and forming a new conference.
Bremen, John Glenn, Knox, LaVille, Jimtown and Tippecanoe Valley are the half dozen schools who will be leaving their current conferences and starting a new league.
The plan for the new conference is to take full effect at the start of the 2024-25 school year so the aforementioned schools will compete in their current conferences for the upcoming school year – 2023-24.
As of this time, the new conference is unnamed, but that will soon change.
Jimtown, Bremen and Glenn have been looking to get out of the Northern Indiana Conference for some time. After all, they have the three smallest enrollments in the NIC.
In a press release, Glenn, which has been a member of the NIC since 2015 after the Northern State Conference dissolved, said, “We are appreciative of the teamwork and competition shared with our NIC associates. Unfortunately, the consolidation of high schools in Elkhart, coupled with plans to do the same in South Bend, have significantly impacted the future format of the NIC.”
LaVille and Knox have begun the process of exiting their affiliation with the Hoosier North Athletic Conference (HNAC) and Tippy Valley has done the same with the Three Rivers Conference.
The schools believe the new affiliation will open up a wider range of competition opportunities for their student-athletes.
We will be joined by John Glenn athletic director Eric Stevens to discuss the new conference in more detail on the inaugural Sports Talk On The Max, premiering this Friday April 7 from Noon-1 p.m. ET (the show will air every Friday at that time and talk all things sports – professional, college and high school).
